Friday Harbor is the only incorporated town on San Juan Island, located just off the northwest coast of Washington. Its proximity to Canada almost led to war with the British once upon a time, but it has since become a tourist destination for those looking to see the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest. San Juan Island’s terrain ranges from quiet pebble beaches to mountains and green valleys, and visitors are almost assured of seeing a variety of wildlife. The waters are home to orca whales and porpoises, as well as seals and sea otters. Friday Harbor has a number of parks and highly regarded beaches, with opportunities for kayaking, whale watching, and fishing.
